We hope this message finds you and your loved ones healthy and safe.  We are committed to our learners and are working to support them during this difficult time.

Washtenaw Literacy's Pandemic Operations

RESPONSE.  Washtenaw Literacy’s in-person programming is suspended until the end of summer and is being evaluated in collaboration with an epidemiology team at University of Michigan.  In-person program and event updates will be posted here.  All Washtenaw Literacy locations are closed.  Mail delivered by the US post office is delayed.  The staff is teleworking to support our learners and tutors during this time and is available through email and their usual phone numbers.

RESILIENCE.  We are committed to social distancing.  We continue:

  • To serve learners through virtual literacy tutoring;
  • To offer tutor training online, emphasizing a focus on health literacy, digital literacy, and family literacy; and
  • To offer one-hour informational sessions, the ABCs of Washtenaw Literacy for people interested in becoming a trained literacy tutor.
  • And, we have added technical support for learners and tutors to support virtual learning.

RECOVERY.  Literacy holds a critical role in supporting individuals and families and our community, and that is clear during a crisis.  We are committed to helping our learners emerge from the pandemic through our literacy foci.  Our friends share our vision of a more equitable community through improved literacy.  Please support our work that responds to specific literacy needs during this difficult time.
