Welcome! Washtenaw Literacy's mission is to provide free literacy instruction customized to the needs of adults throughout Washtenaw County, utilizing a trained network of volunteer tutors. It is our vision to eliminate illiteracy in Washtenaw County. For over 40 years we have been empowering adults through improved literacy. Since our founding in 1971, we have served over 20,000 learners and trained and fully supported over 10,000 volunteer tutors.
- Memorial Day closures: Washtenaw Literacy offices will be closed on Monday, May 27th in observance of Memorial Day. Additionally, the 2pm Basic Literacy Open Group @ WCC, the 1:30pm ESL Group @ Pittsfield Library, and the 6:00pm ESL group @ WCC will not meet in observance of the holiday. Happy Holiday!
- Annual Board Meeting and Appreciation - Celebration of Learning Event: Thursday, June 13th at Washtenaw Community College, Morris Lawrence Building. Join us for our Annual Board Meeting at 5:30PM followed by our Appreciation Event from 6 - 8PM. Hors D'Ouvres and beverages will be served. We will share stories and honor our learner award winners. - NEW! Personal Tutoring Model. Starting June 1, we will provide a new model in personal tutoring. Learners will be placed in one-on-one or clusters based on the outcome of assessment to optimize the impact of our tutoring. The cluster model will be introduced to tutors through an information session. Click here for more information.
