Welcome! Washtenaw Literacy's mission is to provide free literacy instruction customized to the needs of adults throughout Washtenaw County, utilizing a trained network of volunteer tutors. It is our vision to eliminate illiteracy in Washtenaw County. For over 40 years we have been empowering adults through improved literacy. Since our founding in 1971, we have served over 20,000 learners and trained and fully supported over 10,000 volunteer tutors.
- ESL Learner Assessments Closed: We are closing the ESL learner assessment process from November 1st - January 5th. Beginning on January 6th, 2014, learners in need of an assessment can call the office at 734-879-1320 or email us at
to make appointments. We will continue to find tutors for any ESL learners who were assessed and qualified for personal tutoring prior to November 1st. After January 5th, we will begin assessing new ESL learners again. In the meantime, ESL learners can attend any of our ESL groups. Click here for the latest ESL Group Schedule. - Power Tutoring is February 22nd at Washtenaw Community College. Invitations will be mailed soon. For a copy of the brochure, to read workshop descriptions, and to register for workshops - click here.
- Pathways to Literacy. The Pathways program is available for 16-24 year olds who need help with basic reading, writing or math. Tutoring is free.
