Volunteer Tutors Always Needed!

Washtenaw Literacy helps adults build skills for life by providing literacy supports in reading, writing, math, digital literacy, and English as a Second Language.  Our work is driven by committed volunteers who help adults realize their full potential and improve their lives.

As a Washtenaw Literacy tutor, you will become part of a supportive community working to make a difference and build equity in Washtenaw County. 

Teach someone to read. Who knows what you will learn.

Teach someone English.  Travel the world without leaving Michigan.

No experience necessary - training, mentoring and support provided.  In-person and virtual options.  One-on-one and small group tutoring.  You must be at least 18 years old and willing to commit approximately 3 hours a week (2 hours of tutoring and 1 hour of prep) for a minimum of 4-6 months. 

STEP ONE:  Attend an info session: The ABCs of Washtenaw Literacy.  In-person, virtual, and on-demand options.  Spend one hour learning about Washtenaw Literacy's tutoring programs and other volunteer opportunities.  We need your help!
