A Few Highlights from February Forum!

Washtenaw Literacy hosts seasonal professional development workshops designed to support and inspire our tutors. Our most recent mini-conference, February Forum, brought together volunteers and community partners for a lively morning of shared insights, practical strategies, and passion for tutoring. It was a wonderful opportunity to learn from one another and strengthen our collective impact.

We’re excited to share slide presentations from our fantastic presenters in this resource library. Whether you joined us and want a refresher, or weren’t able to attend and would like to see what you missed, we hope these materials continue to support and inspire your work. Here are a few recommendations from Program Coordinator Jaime Merritt to get you started:

Living Our Values – Presented by our Executive Director, David Martineau, this session explores how Washtenaw Literacy puts core values like equity into practice.

SINC: Four Principles for Working with Multilingual Adult Learners – Led by EMU TESOL professor Zuzana Tomaš, this session highlights the SINC framework—Scaffolding, Including, Noticing, and Connecting—and how it can help tutors more effectively support ESL learners.

Simple Ways to Improve Reading Fluency – Presented by longtime Washtenaw Literacy tutor, trainer, and mentor Erin Howarth, this session focuses on the importance of reading fluency and offers practical strategies to build this essential skill.

Enjoy!
