World in a Basket is Washtenaw Literacy's annual gala benefit auction.  It takes place in late September or early October every year.  20% of our annual budget is raised through live and silent auctions of exciting theme baskets while guests enjoy a strolling dinner and fine wine or micro brewed beer.  The volunteer-run event was first presented in 1998, and has grown each year to become  a highly anticipated evening.  Nearly 100 volunteers work throughout the year to plan, execute and enjoy World in a Basket.

In order to make World in a Basket a success, volunteers are needed in several areas:

• Solicit donations of items and goods from businesses to be auctioned
• Seek corporate event sponsors
• Assemble and decorate basket of auction items
• Set-up for the event
• Data entry during the event
