Ypsilanti, Michigan (December 4, 2012) – Washtenaw Literacy announced today that it has been honored with a prestigious 2012 Top-Rated Award by GreatNonprofits, the leading provider of user reviews about nonprofit organizations.

We are excited to be named a Top-Rated 2012 Nonprofit,” says Amy M. Goodman, Executive Director.  “We are proud of our accomplishments this year, including our intensive programs focused on improving high school and GED completion.  Our “Education First” programs support adults who need to improve skills in order to acquire a family-sustaining job.”

The Top-Rated Nonprofit award was based on the large number of positive reviews that Washtenaw Literacy received – reviews written by volunteers, donors and clients. People posted their personal experience with the nonprofit.  For example, one person wrote, “Washtenaw Literacy does a great service to the people of Washtenaw County, Michigan. Not only do they help the many adults in the county who struggle to read at the level of a high-school graduate, they also help the many non-native speakers and their families who come here attracted by the excellent universities here. Volunteering for them is a pleasure. They provide outstanding training and support to volunteers. In fact they have the most supportive people of any organization I know -- with the possible exception of my family!”

Additional reviews can be found at Washtenaw Literacy’s GreatNonprofits site (greatnonprofits.org/organizations/view/washtenaw-literacy).

Being on the Top-Rated List comes at an important time of the year, as donors look for causes to support during the holiday season.

"We are gratified by Washtenaw Literacy for its work,” said Perla Ni, CEO of GreatNonprofits, "They deserve to be discovered by more donors and volunteers who are looking for a great nonprofit to support."

Being on the Top-Rated list gives donors and volunteers more confidence that this is a credible organization.  The reviews by volunteers, clients and other donors show the on-the-ground results of this nonprofit.  This award is a form of recognition by the community.
